Ready for the #30DayDetox? This morning as I was going about my morning routine, the TODAY Show caught my eye...they were talking about 30 Day Disciplines!! Whoo-Hoo!! I stopped to watch because I thought it was so wonderful that they were putting this powerful tool for personal growth out to the masses!
They are calling it the #30DayDetox and today was actually their 2 week "check in" to see how everyone on the show, including a few viewers, were doing with their progress. It was launched by Jill Martin, a TODAY contributor, and she has extended the invite to anyone and everyone. She has chosen to "detox" something from her life for 30 days and is encouraging others to join in. They each chose a bad habit or vice to give up for the month of August. Here are some of the things they chose...
Jill Martin chose to give up her iPhone for her #30DayDetox! What!? No internet, email, social media, or texting! She can only take calls on a old school "flip phone" that has no internet access. She is getting her scripts, info, etc faxed to her or people have to call her flip phone! I think this is incredible, especially for such a public figure. She reported she's doing well so far! She was explaining how difficult it is in this day and age to not get instant news...but also freeing! She's taking it back to the 90's and is relying on word of mouth, phone calls and newspapers. Good for you Jill!!
Each anchor has picked one thing to give up for their #30DayDetox:
Matt – Ice cream Savannah – The word 'selfie' Al – Salty snacks Natalie – Shopping Carson – Eating his kid’s snacks Tamron – Sweets Willie – Bread Kathie Lee – Bread Hoda – Sweets…except for her birthday cake
In watching today's 2 week progress report, many had cheated!! Matt had eaten a Klondike Bar, Natalie admitted to shopping, but excused it because it was for work;)....I was surprised how many had already fallen off! But they plan to keep moving forward;)
What I loved about the show was they did a segment on viewers they gave progress reports on. One viewer reported giving up shopping and she is doing great just shopping in her closet! She looked so happy!
Another woman gave up soda and had not had a Coke in 2 weeks! She had a rough time at first and you could see how much better she looked already!! You could just tell she felt better!
My absolute favorite story was a woman who gave up negative "self talk". She reported that she chose this because her young daughter was starting to say things like, "I think I'm getting fat." She's only 5 years old! She realized she was starting to feel this way because she'd been listening to her mom talk bad about herself! She decided if she thinks or says anything negative about herself during these 30 days, she has to verbally say 3 positive things about herself to her daughter! I think that's wonderful. Great story. She admits how difficult it can be. She's had to say those positive things to her daughter during this time so far....but keeps going!
I know I have written about 30 Day Disciplines here on my website many times...that's because they are SO incredible for personal growth! I love seeing so many public figures getting on board and spreading the word.
After today, this is the PERFECT sign that it's time for my next 30 Day Discipline. I encourage you to join in! It doesn't matter that they are already halfway through...you can start your #30DayDetox today!! I'm joining in! I'm choosing to give up chocolate. Since going Paleo, chocolate is one of my vices that feels like one of my food groups lately! I know I need to tone it down, so this will be a great detox for me. Wait, what did I just do...I know I just bought a bunch of chocolate bars...uh oh. Oh well....my husband will be happy! I'm all in!!!
I encourage you to give this a try....what are you going to choose? What's YOUR next 30 days going to look like? Let's do this together and come back 30 days from now...better than ever!!!
Choose your vice....and if it's not to give up social media, LOL;)....use the hashtag #30DayDetox so everyone can keep track!
