Outfit of the Day - "Spring Casual"

I always say that I can live in a jeans and t-shirt look, but I love to add a couple key pieces to spice up this basic look depending on the occasion.

This post is meant to inspire you to create your own fun jeans and t-shirt look.  I always find it fun to try and find looks I love and recreate them for less!  Give it a try!  I want to see your looks!  Post your outfit on Instagram and tag me and use the hashtag #HWSOOTD so I can see YOUR "outfit of the day".

My favorite way to make my boring jeans and t-shirt look more special and unique is to add a beautiful shoe.  The right shoe can completely change an entire outfit.  My favorite trick is a nude pump or nude heeled sandal that really elongates the leg.  Yes, I'm a fan of heels and wear them often, but you can also find a special flat shoe that adds something special like a pop of color or metallic look.  

Take the time to add a couple of extra accessories that complete the look.  It helps pull the look together and  makes you look like you made more of an effort, even if it's just thrown together for a last minute invite to brunch with the girls.  A hat is a great way to look great fast.  This is my "go-to" when I don't have time to make my hair look decent and it works every time.  A special piece of jewelry or a scarf can work too.  

If I'm wearing a nude colored shoe, I try to add a pop of color somewhere else like with a scarf or handbag, depending on the occasion.

This outfit above is really easy to put together.  Most days you'll find me in some version of this.  Make up is usually a quickie of Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20, mascara and lip gloss.  I use all Beautycounter skincare and makeup these days becasue....safer ingredients, better beauty;)

The goal is to get a few of the right pieces in place so you don't have to spend forever getting ready....but you always look pulled together!

I like to choose some high-end, classic, timeless pieces that last a long time but you can definitely find this look for less.  Target, Amazon and searching styles online are great ways to find looks for less.

April Stitch Fix Finds

I just opened my latest Stitch Fix box yesterday and I wanted to share these three cute items with you in case you want to request them in your Fix!

First, is the super cute Shirt Dress pictured above.  It's my favorite item I received in a while from Stitch Fix.  It's cotton, comfortable, and has a denim, heathered look to it.  It's the perfect length and will be perfect with my favorite Frye Boots or sandals this summer.  It's has a nice hem with a slight longer back than front of about an inch.  One thing I love, because I'm really picky about these things.... the pocket is large.  I love this detail because more often than not, pockets are tiny and that's a deal breaker for me.  I think this large, long pocket gives it a higher end look.  If you'd like to request this shirt dress in your Fix:

Big Star - Casi Distressed Overall from Stitch Fix - $138

Nordstom Sale picks for me!

I had the pleasure of having an amazing personal stylist, Sara Dalquist, pick out things from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale just for me!  It was so fun having her choose things for me because sometimes I get stuck in a rut...and she opened my eyes to a couple of new items that really freshened up my simple look.  

I'm really excited about the green bomber jacket.  I can really see throwing that on as a light jacket to update my jeans and tank top look.  I'm also thrilled with the metallic flats...which are not something I would have ever picked out for myself.  LOVE them.  She broke me out of my "brown boot only" rut by introducing some light and gray booties.  She even taught me how to add snakeskin into my closet while still having a classic, neutral feel....it will all totally give my wardrobe a fresh, updated look...while still keeping with my simple, timeless style.

I've always had a simple, classic style.  These picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale are the items that I either own... or would wear.  

Are you up on the newest jean trends that everyone is wearing like staggered frayed hems?  Yep, culottes are back too.  (These culottes are Chelsea28, which is Olivia Palermo's line for Nordstrom...I love her classy style.)  If you don't have a favorite pair of boyfriend jeans yet...it's time!

It's a great time to stock up for colder weather with this sale!  Boots!!  Did I mention... boots?  I could shop for boots allllll day looooong.  I simply love them.  Booties and over the knee are a must for me.

When Frye goes on sale, I pay attention.  That classic leather crossbody has great detail, but is simple enough that it's timeless.  It's a great deal!!

I have a cashmere wrap in gray very similar to the one above and I wear it so much.  Perfect for chilly evenings, travel.... it's just so handy and will last forever.  It can make jeans and a white t-shirt look very rich.  

When shopping, I remind you to consider "cost per wear".  I always consider this.  it will really help to read my blog post about it because certain investment pieces are really worth it.

Summer's coming!  While I'm always sad to put away my favorite Frye boots that are my go to's in the colder weather... it's always fun to pick out some easy summer outfits that fit many different occasions that I'll get a ton of wear out of.  I found this one recently and I love it so much I have to share it with you.  

This dress is as comfortable as a "cover up" and can be dressed up or down.  It can be worn completely off the shoulder or pulled up a bit on the shoulder and worn like a very wide necked dress.  It's flowy, feminine and flattering.  I got this dress in white and black because I know I'll get a lot of wear out of them.... and the best part??  It's only $27.99  Yep, $27.99  What's more??  Right now, it's buy one, get one 50% off.  Whaaaaa?  Your welcome.

• A clutch -if you're going to dinner
• Don't forget to throw safe sunscreen in your tote for those exposed shoulders!
