So, you are trying to eat healthier. Hot dogs are not exactly on the Paleo-friendly list.... or are they? I've noticed that there are some healthier alternatives out there now that make the occasional chili dog something that won't leave you feeling guilty!
I was at Sprouts the other day and saw that Applegate has come out with these....
This has all the qualities that I look for when I'm buying meats! Yay for Applegate! Here's another option that I found at Coscto...these are Brat's....
Both of these are a much healthier version than traditional hot dogs!
My husband and I did something fun to them by cutting them into spirals before putting them on the grill....
First, use a skewer and put it in the center of your hot dog, like this...
Then cut down to the skewer and cut it in a continual "spiral". We started at an angle at one end and rolled it as we cut along a cutting board...
Then stick them on the grill and they get all nice a cooked in-between the nooks and cranny's because the cuts create more surface area!
As you can see, we like our hot dogs well done and a little crispy! When you remove the skewer, you can pull them apart to make a cool twisted hot dog! Kids will love these!
We go "bun-less", but you can have chili or sauerkraut on these and get your hot dog fix and still feel great because you're not adding nitrates, fillers, and all that artificial junk that can be found in regular hot dogs that no one talks about! Good to keep on hand for some summer grillin"!! :) These would be great with this Tequila, Lime & Green Onion Coleslaw!! Yum!
