What's your next 30 Day Challenge?

It's TIME!.... time for a new 30 Day Challenge!  Sometimes an idea for a new 30 Day Discipline comes to you all of a sudden.  That's what happened to me today as I was sitting in the dentist chair getting my teeth cleaned.  I need to floss more regularly! I have the cutest hygienist ever, I actually don't mind getting my teeth cleaned at all...it's kind of like getting to go catch up with Suzy!  But...I've never been a good flosser, and I know I'm not the only one.  As I was looking for some funny flossing quotes on Pinterest for this post....I was laughing so hard, because they're true!...

Suzy, my hygienist, was saying how she doesn't understand how women can be so disciplined when it comes to our other beauty routines...washing our faces every night, wrinkle cream rituals...day creams, night creams, sunscreens, serums.  Why do I start out strong after a teeth cleaning with my flossing....only to fizzle out?  Then panicking the night before my dental appointment, thinking they won't know I haven't been flossing if I floss for a couple of days before....they know.

I'm a good brusher...I use my Sonicare and everything!  I start out with the best intentions.  It's not that hard to floss.  It doesn't take a long time.  Why don't I stick with it?  Why does this happen with many people?  Well, today I change my story.  I'm done saying "I'm not a good flosser."

I am a good flosser!!  Thanks to Suzy...she reads my blog and she said, "This should be your 30 Day Discipline!"  She totally called me out!  She said, "You're so disciplined with your fitness, but not with flossing!"  She's so right!  I'm taking that challenge, starting today, and I plan to break my bad habit of NOT flossing!  I plan to think of it as part of my beauty routine.  I can honestly count on one hand how many times I've missed washing my face before bed.  I just DO IT...flossing needs to become that important to me.  This is going on my bathroom mirror....

I've always had excuses for not flossing...like many people do when they don't want to take responsibility.  I know for me, my lower teeth are extremely crowded which makes flossing difficult.  So...on a side note, I made a decision today to eliminate that excuse!  For about a year, my dentist has been recommending a retainer for me to re-straighten my bottom teeth because it is affecting my cleaning.  I'm done putting it off!  I got impressions done today and will soon be reminded of my three years I spent in braces!  But that's okay!  In about six weeks I will have straight teeth...followed by a permanent retainer that won't show!  I'm actually very excited about it, for cosmetic reasons too, they are getting crooked enough to bother me.  I'll keep you posted on this new affordable retainer for front teeth...it's called the Inman Aligner that works quickly on cosmetic cases... in case anyone is interested in learning more.  They are getting great results.

If you have a bad habit, it doesn't have to own you!  YOU can change it....right now!!  Who's with me?  What do you need to change?

My next discipline is all about my smile... :) ....which will lead to me smiling even more...which will lead to even more HAPPINESS!!  I WILL FLOSS DAILY FOR THE NEXT 30 DAYS!  I WILL WEAR MY RETAINER (when it comes) except when I eat, brush & floss.  The longest I can have it out is for 4 hours at one time.  That's my commitment....what's yours?  :)

Remember how it feels before making another unhealthy choice...

IMG_5982 Most of us have experienced this list above at one time or another.  I know I have.  A day will come when you say... "ENOUGH!  I'm ready to make a change.  I'm ready for a fresh start.  I'm ready TODAY!"  You have to really feel the last one on the list....YOU WANT TO MAKE A CHANGE.

Unhealthy choices lead to bad feelings...which can lead to unhealthy choices.  It's a vicious cycle.

You are the only person who can stop the cycle.  Start a new cycle!  It's just as easy to stick with as the unhealthy one...once you start.

Start making healthier food choices.  Start exercising.  See how it makes you feel....

It won't happen overnight, but you'll be amazed how quickly you will begin to see and feel small changes...I like phrasing things in the positive:

  • your clothes will fit better
  • your body will feel awake
  • your skin will glow
  • you will have energy
  • you will feel beautiful
  • your body will feel nourished
  • you will be proud that you exercised

All of these things will lead to more confidence and the momentum to keep going!

Once you feel what it feels like to feel good.... you will think about how it will make your body feel before making another unhealthy choice.

It's never too late to start a healthy lifestyle.  Make a change today.  It'll be a choice you won't regret.

I'm working on a new me...

a-new-me I'm working on a new me.  Why?  Because there's room for improvement.

Most people actually have pretty good intentions when it comes to health and fitness, but are lazy.  They want to live a healthy lifestyle, but it never seems to be the right time, right now.

They'll say things like, "I'll start Monday."  "I'll start after______."  "I'll start when bathing suit season comes around."  I'm here to tell you, the excuses will continue.  Do it now.  Right now.  It's the best time to start.  It's never going to be the perfect time...something will always come up.  Don't put it off any longer.

I always knew I could do better when it came to health and fitness.  But it was this thing that dangled out in the future..."One of these days I'm going to get really healthy and get in the best shape of my life.  Time passes... until you make someday TODAY.

So now, I am on a journey to get healthy and fit... now.  Not that the old me is bad, but there is always room for improvement.  It feels better to eat healthy than unhealthy.  It feels better to exercise than sit still.  It improves my mood dramatically to live a healthy lifestyle.

Yesterday I really noticed it.  My husband was off work and we took "Stella" for a long morning walk.  We got home and we both went our separate ways for a bit and worked out.  Then we went and played tennis!  When we were done, I said, "Wow, we've done nothing but exercise today and it hasn't felt like work... it's felt like fun!"  It felt good, I actually felt like I could breathe better.  That's because it's become a habit.  It's just part of our day.

My husband and I are enjoying tennis so much, it's been such a fun new hobby for us!  We started Labor Day weekend and we're improving!  We aren't great at it...but aren't terrible either.  Most importantly we have fun.  We've played the past 3 days in a row.  He had to tape my wrist yesterday because I'm sore, but I wanted to play so bad that it didn't matter I was in pain!

Of course I also had to go get some tennis skirts because now that we're going more often, I have to look fashionable doing it!  Right!?  :)

It's so silly that we used to like tennis, but haven't played in over 20 years!  Why not?  Is there anything that you used to love to do but just quit doing?  Especially if it's active and healthy... go do it!  Go play again!  Get moving and your body will thank you.

No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow your progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn't trying.  Don't try to be like anyone else.  Be YOU.  But be leaner, stronger, and healthier.  There's room for improvement, isn't there?  I know there was for me...

I'm working on a new me.  I'm not putting it off any longer.  Join me!!
